Small Empire Pendule, France c. 1815
Small fire-gilded bronze clock, unsigned. Depiction of striding Hercules with lion skin as a bacchant during the grape harvest. The attribute of the club serves here as a supporting staff under the basket handle. Similar themes have existed since the Directoire and were varied until the late Empire. Cf.
