Brûle Perfum, 19th Century

request note print

Pair of white porcelain brûle perfum on fire-gilded bronze bases and lids in ajour work. The side handles are in the shape of acanthus leaf rocailles and lead over cloth festoons to the polychrome decorated Hermes mascarons. These float above round medallions with bas-reliefs depicting Romulus and Remus, among others. The walls of the scent vessels are open-worked in the shape of flowers at the upper edge and heightened in gold, which is rubbed in places. At the upper edge there is another relief band with tropaions and military equipment.
