Osvaldo Borsani Bar cabinet for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, Italy 1952

request note print

Large two-door bar cabinet with a slightly convex front on four feet tapering downwards and v-shaped recessed sides and loop-shaped brass handles.

The cabinet was designed in 1952 by Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo. The doors were designed by Adriano Spilimbergo using spatulated paint on cream parchment in the shape of twigs and butterflies.

The internal division is made up of two glass shelves in the centre and two further glass shelves with brass brackets in the doors.

The highlight is the trapezoidal glass top as a cover over the three narrow drawers, which was executed by Luciano Fontana in turquoise blue, black and white in the technique of reverse glass painting.

Underneath is another compartment, of which the floor is covered with a glass pane. The plaque by Arredamenti Borsani Varedo (Milan) is also found there.

Archive number 7565/2 Archivio Osvaldo Borsani.

The cabinet has been expertly restored.
